One of our Housing Solution Leads, Rich, has been working with a young gentleman for around six months. Another colleague had also been working with the young gentleman, making great attempts to support him to address his hoarding tendencies. The young gentleman has been living in one of our Rough Sleeper Accommodation Provision (RSAP) flats, but was on the verge of losing the flat due to the condition of the property as it had become uninhabitable

When Rich began to work with him he was sleeping on a dirty mattress in the living room. Every available space had masses of items stacked on top of each other, which had been collected over the years

With Rich’s support, as well as his sister, the young gentleman has made unbelievable steps towards improving his life and living space. He has worked on carrying out a clearance of his bedroom, and has since arranged for this to be fully carpeted and furnished. The young gentleman is so proud of his space now, but more importantly he is so proud of his achievements

Rich acknowledges the imput and impact our partnership working has had in this case. With support from our Mental Health Services the young gentleman has been encouraged to attend a group, where he has been chatting with other service users and has begun to socialise. The young gentleman is enjoying this group so much he has decided to attend their Christmas lunch event

The future looks very positive for this young gentleman. He continues to engage with all the necessary services and is now working towards carrying out a full clearance of the rest of his flat and is arranging a full deep clean of the property

The young gentleman has even expressed an interest in Rich completing a referral to our partnering drug and alcohol service, which is a huge step as he is a long term and high substance user

Rich also highlights how the young gentleman's relationship with services and his family have become so much stronger over the past five months, and its heart warming to think of the huge changes he has made to his life and how he is reaping the rewards
